Fair player title goes to Himalayan Glacier Trekking in TAAN Cup Volleyball
Summit Nepal Trekking has won the inaugural TAAN Inter Company Volleyball Championship organised on August 27-29, at Covered Hall, Dasharath Stadium. Summit Nepal Treks defeated Eco-Trek International by 3-1 sets to win the tournament. Similarly, TAAN Pokhara Chapter defeated Himalayan Glacier Trekking by the same score line to claim the third position.  Himalayan Glacier trekking won the far player title. A total of 14 trekking companies had participated in the three-day event organised by Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN) with the objective of fostering friendly ties between the member companies.

Travel trade associations support flood victims
Different travel trade associations in the country have extended their support to the people displaced after flood in Saptakoshi River in Eastern Nepal. Trekking Agencies' Association Nepal launched a donation campaign with the slogan of 'Share Grief'. The staffers, executive committee members, past presidents and general members of TAAN took part in the donation campaign that started from Tridevi Marg, Thamel. TAAN has handed over Rs 333,333 to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.

Japanese team on Yeti mission
A team of Japanese adventurers hope to prove the existence of the mysterious yeti in Nepal's mountains; focusing on an area they are convinced is home to the legendary creature. Tales of a huge half-man-half-ape roaming the high Himalayas are as old as the hills, and local Sherpa stories about the hairy giant have gripped the imaginations of Western adventurers and mountaineers for decades.

Buddha’s birthplace to have a Park

Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, is in preparation of seeing a construction of a park within less than two years. The park will prominently feature a life-size monument of Little Budhdha, three ponds and a showcase of Korean culture. The park will cover an area of 12 hectares.

An alternate trek route to world’s fifth highest mountain
There is a search going in Nepal to open up a new trekking route that passes and touches the Makalu (8,463m), the fifth highest mountain in the world. The trekking trail currently used by trekkers, mountaineers and visitors to Makalu Barun National Park is in dilapidated state, unfit and too risky for tourists to tread on. A local committee has been formed recently to carry out research and identify possible alternatives.

21,203 tourists in Nepal during July
The arrival figures released Nepal Tourism Board shows that visitor arrivals to Nepal increased by 3% with total 198,366 visitors till July 2008 in comparison to the same period last year. The arrival figures for the month of July, decreased by 19 % as compared to the same month last year. A total of 21,203 tourists visited Nepal during the month via air.

Multiple Entry visa for tourists
In order to facilitate the entry of tourists to Nepal, the Nepalese government has decided to offer Multiple entry visa to all tourists. At the same time the government has scrapped the system of issuing Single Entry Visa for 60 days against US $ 30. According to the new regulation, tourists can receive 15, 30 or 90 days visa by paying US $ 25, 40 and 100 respectively. This has remained duly effective from 16 July 2008.
