| 17 % increase in tourists |

A 17 per cent increase in the number of tourists coming to Nepal via air has been observed in the month of March as compared to the same period in 2007, as per the information provided by Nepal Tourism Board (NTB). A total of 40,032 tourists came to Nepal via air, which is 5910 more tourists than March last year.
The tourist arrival from United States, Britain and Canada grew by 36 per cent, 27 per cent and 42 per cent, posting figures of 3946, 4113 and 3103 arrivals respectively. Likewise the total number of tourists from Germany and France stood at 2502 and 2181.The Asian markets also experienced a remarkable growth during the period. The number of Indian tourists traveling to Nepal has increased by 9 per cent this month. A total of 7371 Indian tourists came to Nepal. The tourist arrival in the first three months (Jan, Feb and March) of 2008 was 96137 as against 82857 of last year. The growth in the tourist arrival from major markets even in off season is believed to have been fuelled by increasing number of international airlines operating direct flights to Nepal. As of now is Nepal is connected by Thai Airways, Qatar Airways, Gulf Air, Jet Airway, The Korean Air, Etihad Airways, Silk Air, Hong Kong based Dragon Air, and China Southern Airlines among others. |
