In its latest decision dated 4 March, the Nepalese Ministry for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has awarded a contract to Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) to construct Khumbu Icefall, which falls en route to Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse and Mt. Lhotse, with effect from 7 March 2008 to 6 March 2010.
SPCC based in Namche Bazaar has already started carrying out its work in the area effective from the first week from March. The said project is supposed to ease the access to Icefall for climbing expeditions. As per the decision, the tourism ministry has also set fixed rates required to be paid by expedition teams using the route for mountaineering.
