| First Inclusive Women Sagarmata Expedition 2008 |

A team comprising of women mountaineers from different ethnic and geographic backgrounds has left on April 14, 2008 for Everest summit. The team will be the first of its kind in the history of Nepalese mountaineering whereby women from such diverse ethnicities are taking part simultaneously.
The main objective behind this feat is to encourage more women to participate in mountaineering and support the cause of women empowerment. The team consist of 10 potential Everest summiteers namely, Aasha Kumari Singh, Nima Doma Sherpa, Sushmita Maskey, Pema diki Sherpa, Chunu Shrestha, Nawang Phuti Sherpa, Pujan Acharya, Maya Gurung, Shailee Basnet and Usha Bisht. The team being led by world’s fastest climber Pemba Dorje Sherpa is planning to climb Everest this spring season. The members had earlier taken over 3-month long training climbing many peaks in Langtang and Everest regions. |
