Sirubari is the first village of the country declared a model village in 1997. Ever since this village has come a long way with many developments. There are many lessons that other villages can learn from this tiny village, which has successfully preserved the traditional Gurung culture that can be observed throughout the village. This renowned tourist destination is located in Panchamul, Syangja. It lies about seventeen hundred meters above the sea level. It seems that Mother Nature has bestowed all its heavenly glory upon this exotic village, where every creation of nature is simply awe-inspiring. Sirubari is not only popular for its scenic beauty, but also for art, culture and tradition. There are some places which have historical and religious importance. In recent days, the village has also made a significant progress in the field of education and health sector. ![]() ![]() Much credit to the development of village development goes to Nepal Village Resort (NVR), which has guided this village to attain international recognition. The local people of Sirubari receive domestic and foreign guests with equal respect. This is the reason why more and more domestic tourists are encouraged to visit this village. Over the years of involvement in the hospitality business, the villagers have developed their own unique style. Garlands and khata are offered to the guests as token of love and respect. The tourists are overwhelmed by the friendly gesture shown by the village people. Panche baja, a popular Nepali set of musical instruments, are also played to welcome the guests. The Village Development Committee makes the arrangement of visitors stay and sight seeing programme. No individual villager can take tourists to their houses without the Committee’s permission. Every evening is special in Sirubari. As soon as evening falls and the moon rises out of the clouds, the village echoes with the music of madal, khaijari and flutes. Young boys and beautiful belles begin dancing on popular Nepali folk songs. Their graceful movements are awesome. Domestic as well as foreign visitors remain glued to their seats till the end of the programme. Some enthusiastic foreign guests can also be seen moving their feet on popular folk music. ![]() ![]() The village has been kept unbelievably neat and clean. Filth containers can be seen at every nook and cranny. The villagers are well trained so that they know what to do with the filth. As a result of the concerted efforts, the entire village looks extremely sparkling. This may be one reason why Sirubari is much liked by every visitor to this village. Interestingly, the village does not have a single star hotel or guest house like in many towns and cities. However, every house member in Sirubari is well trained to receive the guests with the right spirit. Staying with these families the guests feel more like at home. 1-bandh.jpg Each and every house in this village is equipped with all basic facilities expected by the foreign tourists. The tourists may not get a swimming pool in the village, but they can enjoy the glory of natural spring water coming down from the Himalayas . This unique experience does not only surprise the foreign guests, but also Nepalese visitors. Thumro Juro, a 25 metre high mound is a popular vantage point for the morning sunrise. The visitors walk for about one hour uphill to reach Thumro juro. This peak is also visited to have a magnificent view of Manasulu, Machhapuchhre, Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains. The villagers are not only concerned about the local tourism development; they have also given adequate attention to conserve flora and fauna of their area. For this purpose, about 500 hectare land has been brought under conservation. A forty five kilometre long wall has been constructed to protect wild life, herbs and plants. As a result of the hard work, now this reserve forest has already transformed into a dense jungle, where birds and wild animals live without any difficulty. Hunting and cutting of trees are strictly prohibited. The sincere effort of the people of Sirubari was appreciated when the village was chosen for an international award in 2000 by the Pacific Asia Travel Association. Now, when all conflicting political parties have agreed to work together for making a new Nepal, it can be hoped that tourism will definitely get a boost, and more tourists will visit to Sirubari in the days to come. Sirubari can be accessed from four different routes from Pokhara. Pokhara, Naudanda, Seti Dovan, Karkineta, Bayale and Aaruchaur. This has been a popular route among the visitors.
