Guides are all qualified in mountain first aid, and Himalayan Glacier Trekking provides them with specialist training courses in culture, ecosystem, flora, fauna, geography, and history. Himalayan Glacier employs and trains only local Nepali staff. By employing and training local people, our company's efforts will put something back into their communities. Trekking Guides And PortersAll of our guides hold a current mountain first aid certificate and have experience of dealing with the symptoms of acute mountain sickness and other altitude-related illness. All of our guides speak fluent English. If required we can also serve you through any foreign language, such as French, Spanish, Japanese, German and Italian. Most of our guides came from hilly regions and mountain above 3000 m; they are very fit and are familiar with the locals. The guides and porters know the routes like the back of their hand, they practice the local culture themselves and they are extremely passionate about their country, and it will show during the trip. Any trek or expedition to Nepal relies on the hard work of local porters. It is their carrying of our supplies and baggage that makes a journey into the mountains possible. Himalayan Glacier Trekking is therefore careful to ensure that they are well treated, well paid, not exploited and have good protection from the elements. We will provide shelter, clothing and footwear that match the severity of the environment. Porters who become sick are treated with the same care and attention as team members, and we have used helicopters, at our expense, to rescue porters from dangerous situations. Himalayan Glacier Trekking supports the work of the International Porter Protection Group (IPPG), and provides help and advice to those organizations to improve the working conditions of the porters on whom we depend. All trekkers are asked to provide feedback on their porters' working conditions in post-trip questionnaires. Please refer to our guide profile page for information to meet our team.
